About the Film

Filmed in Brooklyn NY

SYNOPSIS: David is a dock worker by day and an unhinged rockstar by night. Playing passionate shows for even the smallest crowds and working his way to the top. Aiming to leave behind his strenuous blue collar job and live a free life with his anti establishment band mates. He gets this opportunity when a representative for a prestigious record company comes to watch their Battle of the Bands. In a tragic accident involving love and revenge David must decide if he will choose to let this opportunity slip through his fingers to save his life or to seize his dream.

While auditions were low, Tomas wanted to create something that could be used for himself and his fellow actor/filmmaker friends who needed work and reel worthy footage. Having made many short films prior, he was no stranger to the process and wanted to create something to reflect the time period he was living in. The realities of chasing a dream, the sacrifice and the struggle while capturing the innocent hope of being young and ambitious. Tomas worked two jobs and went to school full time while he produced, wrote, scored, and directed the film on a budget of $3,000. Using the money he had saved working those two jobs. It wouldn’t be possible without all the amazing and talented people involved.

Juke Box Hero was not a NYFA-supported project.

Directors Statement:

“This film is for those who are living their own movie right now. When you’re young and alone, lost and scared charging head first into the jungle. For the people coming from nothing and giving their lives for what they believe in. This film honors those often forgotten people and provides a beacon of hope that you are not alone in your struggles.”
